A Message From Delta Packing

Dear Customers,

Our mission at Delta Packing is to provide superior quality wine grapes, (Not From Concentrate) fresh juice, and fresh must to the honest, hard working home winemakers of America.  We grow and source all of our wine grapes from the premium grape growing regions of California. We supply about every variety from Albarino to Zinfandel.  We also believe it is an important part of wine making for the winemaker  to know where the grapes come from. That is why we are introducing for 2008 crush our “Grapes of Gold” series of premium wine grapes with AVA specific labels. There are four premium AVA’s that we will be supplying to Gino Pinto this Season. “Napa Gold” (Napa Valley AVA) ,” Paso Robles Gold” (Paso Robles AVA), “Amador Gold” (Sierra Foothills AVA) and “Lodi Gold” (Lodi AVA including the sub appellation of Clements Hills). We want to thank you for your support of Gino Pinto and our products. May this year’s crush be a stellar one and always remember, “Quality grapes make Quality wines!”

Sincerely,

Carl Elkins, Berton Costamagna & the Staff of Delta Packing Co of Lodi, Inc.

Grower Profile

Delta Packing was started in 1976 by Carl Elkins. Carl owned and managed the company until selling to Ernie Costamagna in May of 2001. Carl and Ernie's son Berton currently work together in managing the day-to-day operations of Delta Packing.

Delta Packing has established long term relationships with over 70 growers located primarily in the AVA regions of Lodi, Amador, Paso Robles and Napa.

In addition to working with California growers, Delta Packing and the Costamagna family have been farming throughout California’s San Joaquin valley for over three generations. Delta Packing now oversees over 10,000 acres of grapes, cherries, walnuts, and tomatoes focusing on using sustainable and organic farming techniques. The family believes in being good stewards of the soil to ensure that the farming operation can be passed on to future generations.

Delta Packing is a major grower, packer, and shipper of California cherries in the Spring and wine grapes and juice in the Fall. Their facility has over 40,000 square feet of cold storage located alongside railways and within a half a mile of a major highway corridor. Delta Packing's central location, cross-dock, and loading facility in the heart of grape country allows them to be a focal point for shipping grapes from numerous growers in the area. Grapes can be either hand-packed in the vineyard or can be custom packed at their shed. From their they are palletized and delivered to their facility within hours of harvest. The grapes are air-cooled to 32-33°F, cold-stored, and readied to be shipped from any one of their 7 loading docks.

Delta Packing is centrally located in the Zinfandel capital of Lodi, 35 minutes south of Sacramento and 90 miles east of San Francisco, just west of the Sierra Nevada. The nearby Sacramento River Delta brings cool nights, along with our deep sandy clay soils, making it ideal for grape growing. Lodi has more than 75,000 acres of grapes grown by over 750 farmers. Lodi is the leading producer of all California wine districts for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel. Lodi is home to five major wineries and over 60 “boutique” wineries. More than 60 other leading wineries source grapes from Lodi. Lodi has a long history of good ‘ol days that seem to be getting better and better.
